How to Find a Made-to-Measure Suit Manufacturer (10 Questions to Ask)

A practical checklist for menswear brands and boutiques sourcing a made-to-measure manufacturer — the ten questions that separate a real atelier partner from a factory middleman.

Sourcing a manufacturing partner is the single most important decision a new tailoring business makes. Here are the ten questions that reveal whether you are talking to a real atelier or a middleman reselling a factory’s output.

The ten questions

  1. What is your minimum order? A real made-to-measure partner can cut a single garment.
  2. Whose label goes inside? It should be yours — fully white-labelled.
  3. Where is your cloth from? Look for named mills, ideally woven in Biella.
  4. How is the jacket constructed? Floated canvas and hand finishing, not glued fusing.
  5. What is the lead time? Around 21 days is healthy for true MTM.
  6. What is your remake rate? A confident atelier will tell you (ours is under 1%).
  7. Do you offer a sample before I sell? You should be able to approve a sample garment first.
  8. Can I set a house cut? A house block keeps fit consistent for returning clients.
  9. How do measurements reach you? In person or via a clear digital protocol.
  10. Do you ship worldwide, to me or my client? Flexibility here matters as you grow.

Why these matter

The wrong partner shows up as late deliveries, inconsistent fit and remakes that cost you the client. The right one — like the model behind our partner programs — is invisible, reliable, and makes your brand look better than your overheads should allow.
